MANUFACTURED SAND PLANT:
Thanks to new production technology, manufactured sand made from crushed rock is becoming the fine aggregate of the future for concrete.

Sand used in concrete must be coarse-grained and clean. Sand formed in the mountains or deposited by wind is fine-grained and contains a lot of dust, so it is not suitable for concrete. That is why sand separated from the sand-and-gravel mixtures of river basins has been used for concrete until now. However, river sand is being depleted and does not replenish, which harms the environment. Manufactured sand, on the other hand, has relatively stable properties compared with natural sand, contains few organic and harmful impurities, and offers many advantages such as high strength, high load-bearing capacity and high density. Concrete plants and asphalt concrete plants use the products of the company's manufactured sand plant as their main raw material.
With the adoption of the law prohibiting mineral exploration and mining in river headwaters, water protection zones and forest areas, the large deposits formerly used near Ulaanbaatar were closed for environmental reasons. This has caused a shortage of sand. To solve the problem, more than 40 new quarries have been identified within a 25 km radius of Ulaanbaatar and work has begun to produce manufactured sand from them. The manufactured sand plant of Tegsht Plant LLC is a tangible result of this effort.

Since 2024, the plant has been reprocessing stone from the crushing plant without any waste to produce manufactured sand and supply it to the market. In Mongolia, the standard for sand made by crushing and screening the stone left over from aggregate production was approved in 2021 and is now in force.

“Sand, a key input for concrete production, is in short supply, and Ulaanbaatar's reserves have dwindled. Other countries face the same problem and have started producing sand substitutes. One solution is to grind crushed mountain rock (crushed stone) into manufactured sand and use it as aggregate. That is why we commissioned this sand plant in 2024 and now produce and supply manufactured sand to the market in accordance with the MNS 6128:2021 standard.
Going forward, we aim to produce and supply products based on new technology, with zero waste from the first product to the final one. Specifically, our plant turns out three types of products: 5–10 mm crushed stone shaped by an impact crusher, manufactured sand (0–5 mm), and 0.01–0.1 mm dust generated during sand production. The fine dust is used as a raw material for construction mastic, and asphalt concrete plants can also use it as a fine filler. Because the extraction process has little negative impact on the environment in other respects as well, manufactured sand is becoming the future of fine aggregate for concrete.”
